Dead serious style, that misses a beat
Dead serious style, that misses a beat
Welcome
We hope tragedy isn’t our usual teacher. When it is, we must quiet our minds to uncover the lessons it offers.
At the Unconventional Clothing Company, every garment tells a story rooted in the professional experiences of a retired veteran homicide detective—stories that carry weighted messages or meaningful insights worth sharing through our unique apparel line and merchandise.
Each design’s backstory is crafted to inspire, motivate, or add a dash of dark humour for our customers, and you’ll find these backstories in our product descriptions—this is what sets us apart. Our apparel and merchandise are rooted in real events that we think any true-crime enthusiast may enjoy learning more about.
It’s more than just a shirt with a message; it’s a shirt carrying a message born from genuine experiences of someone who has learned a lot about life through their investigation of the dead, and law enforcement journey.
OUR APPAREL
Don’t Take Life Too Seriously You Won’t Survive It
Although this slogan has a macabre vibe, it also serves as a reminder that life is fleeting and getting caught up in the small stuff can be so detrimental to our overall wellbeing and health. Instead, we subscribe to take the time to slow down your daily life and laugh a little more. The truth is no one ever said on their deathbed that they wished they had laughed less. To learn more about the inspiration behind this lesson.
When a Person Acts Like They Don’t Care…. Believe Them
As a former police investigator, I learned long ago that intimate partner violence crimes are layered with complexity. From my perspective, it was always important to recognize that those living in an abusive relationship may experience many emotions, from fear to hate, to love for the person they thought they chose, to hope, to despair, to life-sucking hopelessness that bleeds away their capacity to act or even to know they should act.
I’m Dying to Know What Happens Next
Keanu Reeves was once asked during an interview with Stephen Colbert, “What do you think will happen to us when we die?” His answer was simple yet profound: “I know that the ones who love us will miss us.” Perhaps it’s as straightforward as that—or perhaps not.
Lucky Breaks
In police work, I believe our lucky breaks and successes come as a result of real action. I will submit that sometimes that action is seemingly helped in inexplicable ways, call it divine intervention, or maybe karma—sometimes it seems like the universe helps. However, something must be set in motion to give a lucky break a place to land
Do Better, Be Better
“If you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should
not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees.”
Often, the Hardest People to Love are the Ones Who Need it the Most
A powerful message and a stark reminder that we live in a world full of lonely people, some on the surface who many would consider hard to love. But as the story that inspires this lesson suggests, even the marginalized members of our communities seek the things all of us want.
The Greatest Warriors Are the Ones Who Bring Peace
The inspiration behind this message comes from an attribute of courage
demonstrated by the most uncommon “warriors” I have met through my journey in law enforcement – vulnerability. We are all blessed for the
peacemakers who can bring calm and resolve through crisis and we believe the story behind this lesson should be proudly shared.
